Trees Knoxville receives TVA funding for innovative new projects

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has awarded Trees Knoxville more than $40,000 in funding for two new projects we can’t wait to break ground on—both of which center on environmental justice. Our new “Shade While You Wait” program will bring trees to bus stops throughout the city, offering shade, cooling, and shelter where it’s most needed. We’ve also planned an urban microforest project that will use the innovative Miyawaki planting method to create a densely planted “tiny forest” on a neglected urban site. TVA will also contribute to our existing Canopies for Campuses program, which means more free trees for Knox County schools. We’ll be asking our vaunted Volunteer Forester corps (that means you!) to help us bring these projects to life—stay tuned for updates.
